Einstein on the Beach is the only Philip Glass opera from his Portrait Trilogy that I haven’t seen. I watched the Metropolitan Opera perform Satyagraha a few years at in a live, HD broadcast to a movie theater by my house. I’ll be watching Akhnaten live next month.
Remember, music – Philip Glass in particular – has always been a big part of who I am. In fact, I spent a good part of my MBA program taking exams while listening to Koyaanisqatsi. I remember discovering my dad’s Glassworks CD for the first time on a day that I was home sick from school. I had no idea what to expect when I pressed play, but I was hooked.
So, in search of the missing Portrait Trilogy opera, I hit up YouTube looking for some live Einstein on the Beach performances. I was excited to see a video of the Philip Glass Ensemble performing “Train” and “Spaceship”:
